Public Law PhD

The program, which aims to provide students with a broad perspective on today's Public Law problems, is mainly focused on Public Law; it is conducted with in-depth and comprehensive content for those who want to specialize in this field and do research. Courses are conducted with the help of academicians who are experts in their fields. The main objective of the Public Law Program is to provide graduates with the ability to evaluate current Public Law problems and to train Expert Public Lawyers

Period of Study

4 (four) Academic Years (8 Semesters) for those admitted with a master’s degree.
5 (five) Academic Years (10 Semesters) for those admitted with bachelor’s degree.

  • The medium of instruction is Turkish.
  • For the doctorate program participants who have postgraduate diploma, the course load is 7 elective courses for the first two semesters, a maximum of 4 elective courses per semester.
  • The course load of the students who participate directly to the PhD program without a master's degree is 14 courses for the first four semesters, with a maximum of 4 elective courses per semester. Students who participate directly to the PhD program without a master's degree take a non-credit compulsory seminar (Scientific Research Methods) course in one of the first four semesters.
  • The program is conducted on weekdays and/or evenings during the week.
  • Those who participate in the PhD program with a postgraduate diploma are required to successfully complete at least 21 credits (7 elective courses), proficiency exam, thesis proposal and thesis study in order to graduate. 
  • Those who participate directly in the PhD program without a master's degree are required to successfully complete at least 42 credits (14 elective courses), non-credit compulsory seminar course, proficiency exam, thesis proposal and thesis study in order to graduate. 
  • To be a graduate of the Faculty of Law,
  • To have a master’s degree in Law at any Social Sciences Institute (for applicants with a master’s degree)
  • To enter ALES in the last five years and get a minimum score of 55 from the equally-weighted score type,
  • To enter the ALES exam in the last two years and get a minimum score of 80 from the equally-weighted score type, and a score of 5,5 from Foreign Language (UDS or equivalent score) (for applicants with a bachelor's degree),

Program Opening Periods

Applications to the program are accepted twice a year in the Fall and Spring semesters.

Graduation Requirements:

In order to graduate from the Ph.D. program, at least one article must be published in a national or international peer-reviewed journal or accepted for publication, or the full text of at least one publication must be published in the proceedings of a national or international congress or accepted for publication before the submission of the dissertation. Prof. Dr. Durmuş TezcanGraduate Education aims to lead the lawyers who have completed their undergraduate education to Master’s and Doctoral education in the field of Public Law. In this way, students are given training to improve their scientific research skills and to give them the habit of scientific study on a specific subject or to bring innovation to science, to develop a new scientific method or to apply a known method to a new field in order to make progress in an academic career. In addition, Public Law Master’s degree program without thesis has been opened in our department in 2014-2015 academic year, which includes other undergraduate graduates. By this means, our students are offered the opportunity to specialize professionally in certain areas and it is aimed that they perform more useful studies in their professional lives. The success of graduate education will also be our pride in public law undergraduate education and will achieve the intended goal to the extent that it is beneficial to society.

I believe that participating in our master’s degree and doctoral programs will contribute to all lawyers who want to do academic and postgraduate studies.

GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR APPLICATION TO ALL PROGRAMS

During the application candidates must bring the following, 

  • Copy of Diploma or Temporary Graduation Certificate,
  • Copy of Transcript,
  • Copy of ALES Certificate,
  • Certificate of Military Service Status (For male candidates),
  • 2 passport photos,
  • Copy of the Identity Card,
  • Copy of the Foreign Language Certificate for PhD Programs,

During the final registration students must submit the following,

 

  • Certified copy of Diploma or Temporary Graduation Certificate,
  • Certified copy of Transcript,
  • ALES Certificate, (To be printed out at the Institute.)
  • Original of Military Service Status (For male candidates),
  • 6 passport photos,
  • Foreign Language Certificate for PhD Programs, (To be printed out at the Institute)
  • First installment of Tuition Fee,
