PHYSICS MASTER’S DEGREE (THESIS)

The aim of İKÜ Institute of Sciences Physics Master’s Degree Program (Thesis) is to teach the students scientific and technological developments and to direct them to further research on current issues.

After the field researches, two new course packages were created in the Physics Master’s Degree Program (Thesis):

  1. A course package for the Master of Physics in line with the new curriculum for teachers of Astronomy, Science and Physics,
  2. A course package for the Master of Biomolecular Physics, the meeting point of Biology, Medicine and Physics.

Teachers play a critical role in increasing interest in science and technology among primary and secondary school students. More effective, productive and enjoyable class environments can be created by using the visual and current contents of Astronomy to encourage young people about scientific curiosity, methodical work, comparison and observation. A new course package has been created under the İKÜ Physics Master (Thesis) program in order to enrich the knowledge of astronomy, science and physics teachers on science education and physics, astrophysics and astronomy and to turn their knowledge into educational activities. With the help of this new course package, which will enable teachers to improve themselves in line with the innovations made in the secondary education curriculum by the Ministry of National Education Board of Education, it is aimed that teachers will gain additional knowledge, skills and equipment with modern science education methods and techniques. The students, who will attend the training to be given by İKÜ Physics Department Astrophysics Working Group, will gain project experience by participating in the R&D and scientific research projects carried out by this group.

Biomolecular Physics is an interdisciplinary field that has rapidly become widespread in recent years, including the Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Mathematics and Medical sciences. In general, it is a discipline to determine the molecular structure of biologically active molecules using theoretical and experimental methods, to determine their conformation, to determine their intermolecular interactions and to investigate their biological activities.

This program investigates the structure and energetic properties of molecules using modern spectroscopic and computational methods and their relationship to biochemical and cellular functions. It aims to understand the biological systems from the smallest organisms to supramolecules in terms of their structural organization and dynamic behavior. The studies carried out within the scope of this program cover a wide range from new drug designs, molecular imaging, molecular diagnosis of diseases to forensic sciences.

The Biomolecular Physics working group conducts interdisciplinary studies on the applications of Physics in the fields of Biology, Pharmacy and Medicine. In cooperation with the fields of Biology and Medicine, methods are developed to complement the methods used in medicine in the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases. In addition, experimental and theoretical molecular modeling studies and new computer design studies are carried out.

The scientific studies carried out within the İKÜ Institute of Sciences Physics Master’s Degree Program (Thesis) are supported by national and international institutions such as İstanbul Kültür University (BAP) and (TUBITAK).
