Educational and school management have been recognized as a professional occupation in the developed countries of the world for many years. A professional occupation requires the acquisition of specific academic and scientific knowledge and skills related to the job as well as experience. This program aims to raise the educational and school managers needed in the field of educational and school management in our country as well as to equip those who want to pursue an academic career in the field of educational and school management with the necessary prior knowledge and skills. The main purpose of the MA in Educational Management and Planning is to improve the leadership and management knowledge, skills and capacity of individuals working in or interested in the education sector and to contribute to the development of educational management field as a strong academic and applied discipline in İstanbul and Turkey.

The Aim of The Education Management and Planning Master Program With Thesis
The aim of the Education Management and Planning Master Program with Thesis is to carry out researches that will contribute to the development of the field of education management and to train academicians who will contribute to the development of this field. Other objectives of the program are to support the professional development of educators and to gain professional competence in the field of educational management.
The Aim of The Education Management and Planning Master Program Without Thesis
The aim of Education Management and Planning Without Thesis Master Program is to train education leaders equipped with the knowledge and skills required by the 21st century. The program aims to provide educators with the ability to solve problems encountered in the field of management, to improve their managerial competencies and to gain knowledge and experience to conduct research in the field.
Program without thesis: 3 semesters
Program with thesis: 4 semesters
- The medium of instruction is Turkish.
- 30 credits are required.
- In order to graduate, “Master's Thesis” and “Seminar” are required in addition to the normal course load in the program with thesis.
- Students must prepare “Term Project” in the program without thesis.
- The program runs from 18:00 to 21:00 on weekdays.
- Students must have taken ALES in the last five years and have a minimum score of 55 from any score group.

In Turkey, educational and school management has not been considered as a profession until the 1980s. The national education system is largely under the control of the Ministry of National Education, financially and administratively, except for private schools which have not exceeded 3.5 percent of the total student population for many years. (It should not be forgotten that private schools are also under the control of the Ministry of National Education in terms of administration and program supervision.) In our National Education system, educational and school management remains a profession learned in master-apprentice style. This has changed in the last twenty years. Besides, educational and school management started to be accepted as a scientific field of study.
İKÜ Educational Management and Planning Master's Degree Program aims to raise qualified people in the educational and school management field by integrating contemporary scientific knowledge and approaches with practice in this field. The first of the two target groups of the program are those who teach in private and public schools, and who plan to become managers in the future, or who are already managers and wish to improve themselves in the field of educational and school management. The second target group of the program is individuals who wish to pursue an academic career in the field of educational and school management.
Educational Management and Planning Master's Degree Program, which has options with and without thesis, differs from similar programs in other foundation and state universities in our country in various aspects. In the program which includes practice and clinical experience, courses will be taught in different formats. Case studies, simulations, films and videos, drama will be widely-used teaching methods in the teaching process based on discussion and active participation of the student.
The main objective of İstanbul Kültür University, Institute of Graduate Education Educational Management and Planning graduate program is to improve the leadership and management knowledge, skills and capacity of individuals working in or interested in the education sector and to contribute to the development of educational management field as a strong academic and applied discipline in İstanbul and Turkey.
The courses in the program are designed to reflect the contemporary developments in the field of Educational Management and Planning and also to address the practices in our country in the light of these developments. With this design, it aims to provide participants with the opportunity to examine the issues in the field of Educational Management and Planning in-depth and to critically analyze the developments in this field. In addition to the compulsory courses, elective courses that can meet different interests and expectations of the students are offered to create a “platform based on sharing and learning” that will enable the participants to focus on the fields they are working and interested in.
The courses in the Educational Management and Planning graduate program are based on the “Experience Sharing Model”. This model will enable students participating in the program to share and synthesize their experiences in educational institutions with expert faculty members. We have a strong staff with both theoretical and practical experience in the field of Educational Management.
