Determining and considering the geological and ground structure of the construction site during the survey, design and construction phases in civil engineering applications such as housing, transportation systems, bridges, dams and irrigation structures, power generation facilities, ports and marine structures, tunnels and underground structures, waste removal and treatment structures is of great importance for economic and safe construction. The destructive earthquakes in our country in recent years have highlighted the painful consequences of under-consideration of ground conditions in construction projects.
The Department of Geotechnics is actively involved in research and application activities as well as undergraduate and graduate education, which occupies an important place in civil engineering education. The Department of Geotechnics which has the mission of providing our students with the most up-to-date information about their professions, contributing to the development of universal science through research projects and taking an active role in the geotechnical applications in our country, tries to contribute to the development of İstanbul Kültür University by undertaking effective duties in the Department of Civil Engineering and the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
Period of Study
Geotechnics Program with Thesis: Minimum 4 Semesters, Maximum 6 Semesters.
Geotechnics Program without Thesis: 3 Semesters
- The medium of instruction of the Geotechnics Program is Turkish.
- Geotechnics Program is a master’s degree program with/without thesis.
- The program consists of 120 ECTS.
- To enter ALES exam in the last five years and get a minimum score of 55 in the score type of the graduate* program applied for.
- For students who do not graduate from the related department, a "Preparatory Program" with a content and duration to be determined by the Department may be required.
- In order to graduate, students must prepare “Master’s Thesis” (Program with Thesis) or “Term Project” (Program without Thesis) in addition to the normal course load.
Applications to the program are accepted twice a year in the Fall and Spring semesters.

GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR APPLICATION TO ALL PROGRAMS
During the application candidates must bring the following:
- Copy of Diploma or Temporary Graduation Certificate,
- Copy of Transcript,
- Copy of ALES Certificate, (ALES certificate is not required for Non-Thesis Programs)
- Certificate of Military Service Status (For male candidates),
- 2 passport photos,
- Copy of the Identity Card,
- Copy of the Foreign Language Certificate for PhD Programs,
During the final registration students must submit the following:
- Certified copy of Diploma or Temporary Graduation Certificate,
- Certified copy of Transcript,
- ALES Certificate, (To be printed out at the Institute.)
- Original of Military Service Status (For male candidates),
- 6 passport photos,
- Foreign Language Certificate for PhD Programs, (To be printed out at the Institute)
- First installment of Tuition Fee,
Students who are entitled to final registration by applying to the Geotechnical Master's Programs with and without Thesis and who are not graduates of the Department of Civil Engineering , will be given a scientific preparation program if they register to the program.
